a wizard wants the minotaur

a wizard wants the minotaur. he probably sent you to get it. you probably owed him a serious favor. he wants it alive for his fucked up magical smart home research but he will sigh, pay you anyway, and never trust you again if you dump its corpse on his wizard porch. he needs it in one piece though. maybe he gives you a few black iron nails of doorway stabilization (brittle, reusable, difficult but not impossible to softlock with) but hes an asshole and wont tell you much about what to expect besides things like "bring lots of food," "dont send your finest," and "youll know it when you see it"

roll on here every time the party goes through a door in the maze area. treat the party as a single unit for inter-room travel purposes unless they split up or something similarly catastrophic happens

roll a d6 along with the d50, increasing die size every (10, size of current die, current die shows maximum value, ???) rooms as they fall "deeper" into the maze

on a 1 they get spat back out the front door (stone corridor ringed with a band of runes, elaborately recursive on the threshold side with an inward-facing trough so as to trap, bewilder, and dissipate the gluttonous maze energies; the labyrinth will leak if some smartass mars the wards with a chisel) and the escape die resets

if the minotaur is removed from life support it will die in ten minutes, the place starts coming apart at the seams, and the escape die becomes a d10. when the minotaur dies anyone left in the maze will be disgorged somewhere utterly random and probably removed from play

d50 rooms from out of time and place, hoarded in the minotaurs maze

1.  padded room, explorers journal on floor
2.  maze of doors
3.  temple to an unknown deity, candles lit and fresh offerings on altar
4.  supermarket, someone shelters here after wandering in from outside
5.  convenience store
5.  solid wall of water, roll for salinity (hard to close)
6.  enclosed chain link walkways in the void
7.  pipeworks, mazelike
8.  bathhouse, d6, on 1-2: dry 3-5: stagnant 6: still steamy
9.  soldiers' bunks, weapons on wall and personal belongings in footlockers
10. scholar's cell, scholar singlemindedly writing syncretic magical tome in unknown language (earthshakingly heretical)
11. well-stocked bar with record player and weapon behind counter
12. the sun room
13. cryogenic meat locker, d10 pod inhabitants still alive in deep freeze
14. underground river turning hydroelectric turbine
15. murder scene, revolver on the floor (five shots left)
16. greenhouse, lit by uniform white light through ceiling
17. empty tomb
18. hobbit hole, signs of hasty exit
19. vertical shaft, d20m diameter
20. art gallery
21. belly of a ship, rocking gently
22. submarine, a little leaky
23. aquarium (any fish?)
24. clock tower, still ticking, door under clock face at top
25. the sand room from stalker, or floor covered in broken glass
26. space station, zero gravity, zero stars
27. morgue
28. fancy restaurant
29. cave with no atmosphere, depressurizes if youre stupid enough to force the door
30. hall lined with foreign flags
31. reflecting pool, something cool on bottom
32. indoor fire escape
32. small walled garden
33. inside of giant shell, spiral, mother-of-pearl
34. opulent home, sculpted in perfect ice
35. columns and columns and columns and columns and
36. endless flat wall dotted with round holes overlooking nothing
37. man-sized sculpture in the center of a vast circular chamber
38. fallout shelter, canned food and ammo (no can opener)
39. bookstore, dusty
40. library stacks, spotless
41. village on the shore of an inky underground lake
42. pulsing fungus
43. the reptile room
44. mineshaft with mining tools including d8 sticks of dynamite
45. ossuary, bones of unknown race
46. abattoir, old carcasses, black blood, not a single fly
47. dirt tunnel lined with thick knotted roots and upset flagstones
48. dungeon with oubliette
49. empty concrete courtyard, flat walls, right angles, black sky, utterly silent
50. modern hospital room, 30kg lump of flesh hooked up to bags of fluid in the bed (this is the minotaur)

please add cool shit to these rooms, and/or more rooms. id recommend keeping any monsters or npcs in tune with the deafening silence of empty places. maybe some kind of pursuer or haunting could be cool though.

also the dice numbers are total bullshit, youll probably want to change them. maybe sort the rooms into depth tiers each corresponding to an escape die, rolls encompass all rooms at or below the current tier, final tier is closed (roll on that set of rooms only) with no escape die until you bag the minotaur
